1898-1930
Intro
In the sports world during this time a lot of things were introduced. The sports world was introduced to its own songs that united fan bases at games. Instead of just being games they turned into entertainment and this was new in the sports world. Also Winter sports and the Olympics were introduced. Winter sports showed how people adapted to the the different situations to still get sports across on all terrains. The Olympics were big because instead of songs just uniting fan bases the Olympics united the country and created a strong sense of nationalism. Sports were a big part of the world in this era.

This primary source is a cover of the song "Take me out to the ball game." This songs lyrics can be seen above this explanation. This song tells us that people started to really like baseball and enjoy it as a pass time. It shows that people had a legit interest in going to watch the games. Also it shows they turned baseball games into a way to make money by selling food and drinks. This was at the time sports went from games to entertainment. The last line of the song shows how much people really started enjoying the sport as it says "I don't care if I ever get back." This was written in 1920 by Jack Norworth and Albert VonTilzer. This song is still played today and it is used to bring unity among the crowd. This was the first time fans could really relate to each other at games was when this song was played.

This picture shows Miss Earhart buying a sports plane. This picture was taken at a plane dealership in 1925. This picture shows how flying really took off after it was invented. The wright brothers were the reason for planes and it goes to show you that the people of this era would take an invention like a plane and make a sport out of it. It also shows the continuation of women in sports. Its cool to think a plane that was invented just a couple of years before this could then turn into a sport that fast.
This picture shows two skiers and this was a poster that was printed in the 1920's. Winter sports such as skiing were beginning to grow. I think this is significant because in earlier times of sports running and track were very big but this shows people of this time periods ambition to start a new sport and begin something that would be refreshing. They were always trying to come up with something new. They always wanted change and I think this shows it. This picture explains the history of my topic by them always wanting to be competitive no matter what weather and no matter what they were doing.
This picture was taken in New York in 1924. It shows the first Olympic track and field games. This shows us that people in this era really wanted to be competitive. They wanted to be showcased on the national level. It shows change in the fact that they took a sport and turned it into a world wide competitive thing. They wanted fame for their hard work. This explains the relevance because this has to deal with nationalism because it shows how the nation can be united by sports.
